Description
iGuru integrates three services that are typically provided separately into one seamless process, all under one roof:
1. REPAIR
Professional repair services for smartphones, laptops, tablets, smartwatches, gaming consoles, and drones, including advanced micro-repairs of chips and motherboards. These are highly specialized repairs that many repair shops do not offer and for which customers are often advised to replace the device instead of repairing it.
2. BUY-BACK
The purchase of old, unused, or damaged devices at fair prices, as well as the option to trade in an existing device when purchasing another product.
3. REFURBISHMENT AND RESALE
Devices acquired through the buy-back programme undergo thorough diagnostics, necessary repairs, and replacement of worn components, particularly batteries and displays. They are then returned to the market as fully functional refurbished devices with warranties of up to 24 months, depending on the product.
Devices that can no longer be repaired are used as a source of high-quality spare parts for other repairs. Components that cannot be reused are sent for environmentally sound recycling through authorised electronic waste collection systems.
The result is a simple and convenient solution for customers. Instead of discarding an old device and purchasing a new one, they can repair it, sell it, or trade it in for a refurbished device—all in one place.
This integrated model helps overcome the main barriers that discourage consumers from choosing repair, particularly cost and convenience. Fast repair services, affordable refurbished devices, and fair buy-back prices extend the lifespan of electronic products while providing customers with a more economical and sustainable alternative.
Economic benefits
For Customers
Repairing a device, such as replacing a screen or battery, often costs only a fraction of the price of purchasing a new one. Extending the lifespan of an existing device by several years therefore provides households with direct financial savings.
A refurbished device with a verified technical condition and warranty offers a more affordable alternative to a new model with comparable specifications. In addition, the option to sell an old device or trade it in towards the purchase of another product further reduces the overall purchase cost by turning unused electronics into tangible value.
For the Company
iGuru's business model is built on three closely interconnected activities: repair services, the sale of refurbished devices, and electronics buy-back. These activities reinforce one another—devices acquired through the buy-back programme become a source of refurbished products for resale or provide spare parts for repair services, enabling more efficient use of available resources while reducing operating costs.
At the same time, the business creates and sustains skilled jobs for qualified technicians within the region.
For the Region and Society
The availability of local repair services and refurbished electronics helps extend the lifespan of devices, reduce electronic waste, and limit the need for the premature purchase of new products.
At the same time, these activities support the retention of specialist expertise in modern electronics, including advanced motherboard and microchip repair, within Košice and the surrounding region.
Environmental benefits
The main environmental benefit of this solution is waste prevention, which represents the highest priority in the waste hierarchy. Every repaired or refurbished device not only means one less piece of electronic waste but also postpones the need to manufacture a new device.
The solution delivers several specific environmental benefits:
- Extending the lifespan of electronic devices – instead of being discarded after the first failure, such as a damaged screen or a worn-out battery, devices are given several additional years of reliable use.
- Conserving natural resources and energy – the production of a new smartphone accounts for the largest share of its overall environmental footprint. Extending the lifespan of an existing device therefore delivers significantly greater environmental benefits than the energy savings achieved during its use.
- Reducing the demand for critical raw materials – reusing electronic devices decreases the need for materials such as lithium, cobalt, copper, and rare earth elements, the extraction of which is associated with considerable environmental and social impacts.
- Maximising the use of components – devices that can no longer be repaired are dismantled, and their functional components are reused as spare parts for future repairs. Only the remaining non-reusable parts are sent to authorised electronic waste collection and recycling systems, minimising the amount of waste generated.
- Promoting responsible consumption – customers are actively encouraged to choose repair services and refurbished devices as a fully viable alternative to purchasing new electronics. This approach supports more responsible consumer choices and contributes to the practical implementation of the Right to Repair principle.
By integrating repair, buy-back, and refurbishment into a single business model, iGuru has created a circular approach to electronics management that extends product lifecycles, reduces electronic waste, and contributes to the more efficient use of natural resources.
Examples of implementation of the solution in practice
The most commonly provided services include:
- Screen and battery replacement for smartphones and tablets, often completed while customers wait, helping to prevent otherwise fully functional devices from being unnecessarily discarded.
- Advanced motherboard micro-repairs, including repairs of liquid-damaged devices, charging circuit failures, and data recovery from devices that other repair shops have deemed beyond repair.
- Laptop and MacBook servicing, including battery replacement, cooling system cleaning, and other repairs that significantly extend the lifespan of both personal and business devices.
- Electronics buy-back, diagnostics, and refurbishment, whereby purchased devices undergo thorough inspection, professional repair, and replacement of worn components. They are then returned to the market as refurbished devices with warranties of up to 24 months, depending on the product.
- Trade-in services, allowing customers to hand in their old device when purchasing another product. The collected devices are either refurbished for resale or used as a source of spare parts for further repairs.
- Repair services for gaming consoles and drones, complementing the company's range of specialised services and addressing the limited availability of such repair services in eastern Slovakia.
